That’s right, folks! The RGFC has already begun blazing through their latest retro-jam, and, lo and behold, you've selected the cult classic clothing simulator, Soul Blazer. Prepare for the unrivaled arcade action as you play the blazer of the Godfather of Soul himself, James Brown. You'll jam out to over 40 Brown classics while protecting “Soul Brother Number One” from the onslaught of incoming fan projectiles. Build up your combo meter to activate SOUL-verdrive.

Update: Actually, it’s a Zelda-inspired dungeon crawler developed by Quintet and published by Enix for the SNES. Who knew? Remember kids, be on the look out for [citation needed] whenever browsing Wikipedia.

Though it's coming in more than a little late, the long-awaited second episode of the RetroGame FunClub is finally here! As previously mentioned, the topic of this week's discussion is the Super NES classic, Super Castlevania IV.

But wait, there's more! We also have two special guest hosts this week. Joining us is the Editor-in-Chief of Wingdamage.com, Jonah Gregory, alongside our good friend Taylor Bliss. Below is the poll for next week. The poll will close this Friday, July 2nd, at which time we will announce the winner on this blog and on our Twitter account.

Crack that whip, folks, it's time to take down Dracula for the fourth time! Narrowly defeating Rondo of Blood in our listener poll, Super Castlevania IV was chosen by you, our fans, as the focus of next week's show! If you wish to play along with us—Don't forget to send along tweets and emails if you do!--the game can be found on the Super Nintendo and the Wii's Virtual Console for 800 points ($8). We're sure there are other methods to play it, but we wouldn't know anything about that, would we?

Didn't expect the RetroGame FunClub boys to return, did you? Well, we're sorry, sir, but your presumptions are wrong. DEAD wrong. Because we’re back and bringing more strictly extreme, retro-gaming joking straight to you, the hungry masses. Prepare to discuss old games and fans' e-letters and tweeter tweets, but this time better than ever.

This episode, we become quite the handsome podcast with the introduction of Neil (Ivar) Patel’s very dashing logo, talk about classic shooter Gunstar Heroes, discuss power ups, rag on the listeners for not sending us your precious tweets and emails, squeal, and jam out with the bluesy tones of Neskvartetten in their cover of “Super Mario Bros. World 1-1”.

Prepare for this weeks poll

Listen to the rise of the RetroGame FunClub—a new comedic, videogame-based show that drops the insipid, inane plots of other various programs and delivers nothing but strictly extreme, bare-knuckle retro-videogame humor patently designed to make your brain smart. Each week we'll play a different retro game chosen by our fans via polling, discussing both the game and our fans' tweets and e-mails on the show.

In this introductory episode we learn to groove with the help Jesse “Main Finger” Gregory’s delightful opening jam “A Noble Sacrifice”, say hello, make a few Banjo & Kazooie jokes, go over the show's format, pull some plugs, sell out within minutes and close things out with the morose tones of “The Brink of Time”, another Main Finger cover, this time from Chrono Trigger.

Shownotes:

-Gunstar Heroes is in fact, available for purchase on Sony’s PSN, along with XBLA and the Virtual Console. If you're truly retro, you can also play it on its original platform, the Sega Genesis.

-Unfortunately, Gunstar Heroes definitely did not make its way on to Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Beach Party, which is, by the way, a TWO THUMBS UP GAME BOX COLLECTION.

-You can catch Jesse at his blog WingDamage and find his music at the Mainfinger blog.

Ahhh yes, Gunstar Heroes has been officially selected as the the RetroGame FunClub's very first game. Treasure, beloved protectors of the 16-bit era, first debuted with Gunstar Heroes, a classic "Run and Gun" shooter published exclusively for the Sega Genesis. Gunstar Heroes is available for both the Wii's Virtual Console, the XBOX 360 Arcade, and Sony's PSN.
